I was introduced to Pilates after several years of suffering from lower back pain. After just a few months of classes I noticed a marked improvement in my own mobility and posture. As my interest in Pilates grew I decided to pursue this further by training as a teacher myself. Having qualified as a matwork teacher with Body Control Pilates (R), Europe's foremost Pilates Association, I set up full time as a Pilates Instructor here in Littlebury, Saffron Walden.
Background
Pilates is a series of body-conditioning exercises developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967). Targeting the deep postural muscles these exercises build strength from within, helping to correct imbalances and realign the body.
At the core of the Body Control approach to Pilates are the eight key principles:
- Relaxation;
- Breathing;
- Concentration;
- Flowing Movements;
- Alignment;
- Co-ordination;
- Centring & Stamina.
Body Control Pilates teachers work to a Code of Practice that governs teaching standards and professional ethics, and ensures continuation and professional development.
